In the rolling wilderness of Fiordland National Park, New Zealand, a spirited young woman named Eirlys Thorne set out alone for a soul-searching retreat. Raised in the busy streets of Cardiff, Eirlys had always craved solitude and adventure. She worked as a botanical illustrator, finding beauty in nature’s smallest patterns. Her dream had always been to sketch untouched landscapes and discover rare alpine plants.
She booked a quiet holiday in a remote forest cabin near Lake Te Anau. Armed with sketchbooks, tea leaves, and her hiking boots, she wandered farther each day into the misty woods. One morning, after chasing a glimpse of a silver-leaved gentian, she lost track of her path. The clouds thickened. Her compass failed. The winding forest trails twisted back on themselves like ivy.
Eirlys tried retracing her steps, but moss-covered rocks and fallen trees created a maze. She kept calm and listened—birdsong, trickling water, and distant rustles gave her hope. Her phone had no signal, and her cabin key was missing. She stumbled upon strange objects: carved stones, worn shoes, and faded trail signs. Someone had wandered here before.
