One spring morning, Alaric spotted a graceful calico named Vespera sitting on the garden wall across the cobblestone path. Their eyes met, and from that day on, he waited by the window, hoping to meet her.
But today, Giustina left for the market and accidentally locked every door. Alaric searched the rooms, sniffed at forgotten drawers, and pawed at latches. He refused to give up. The clock ticked louder. Sunset crept in. Vespera waited, her tail curled neatly beneath her.
